    SCHOLARLY TEACHING AND RESEARCH

    Scholarly Teaching and Research

    What is SoTL?

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is a systematic inquiry into student learning that advances the practice of teaching through public dissemination; it involves “problem-posing about an issue of teaching or learning, study of the problem through methods appropriate to the disciplinary epistemologies, applications of results to practice, communication of results, self-reflection, and peer review” (Cambridge, 2010, p. 8).

Cambridge, B. (2010). Fostering the scholarship of teaching and learning: Communities of practice. In D. Lieberman & C. Wehlburg, (Eds.). To improve the academy. Bolton, MA: Anker.

    • Take advantage of the Faculty Research Support from the Helmke Library.

Annual SoTL Summer Writing and Project Development Institute

Get focused mentoring and support with your SoTL projects, no matter what stage of development!  This 2-day retreat is open to all faculty and grad students and is designed to help you kickstart or make significant progress on your SoTL project. The proposal form is simple, and will guide the program organizers in selecting mentors and presenters that will most effectively support your productivity. For more information, contact Rachel Ramsey or a member of the CASTLE committee.

    • Proposal Deadline: March 17, 2024
