Our campus features over 680 acres of beautiful spaces for to sit and study, gather with friends, or host an outdoor event.

5K Course

The Purdue Fort Wayne 5K course follows main sidewalks and trails throughout campus while not leaving the main campus property. The course can be rented all year, weather permitting. Reservations are first come-first served. Renter is required to mark their own course with only the following approved option:

  • Chalk (in areas that are rain naturally meets)
  • Yard signs
  • Yard flags
  • Removable markings on trees (i.e colored rope/tape)

  • Cleaning Site Fee: $50
  • Trash Bin Rental (minimum of 4 required): $5 per bin

Alumni Park

Located on the west bank of the St. Joseph River and accessible from the Purdue Fort Wayne campus via the Venderly Family Bridge. Alumni Park is an 18-acre field that has been home to the Highland Games and festival events.

Alumni Plaza

Winding around our beautiful bronze Mastodon statue and nestled between the Walb Student Union and the Helmke Library, the Alumni Plaza is the center of campus. The plaza also features the Connie and Dan Dickey Alumni Fountain which provides a great backdrop for presentations or special events.

Library Green

This lawn area is conveniently located near Parking Garage 1 and the Helmke Library. The Library Green is an ideal spot for any outdoor activity or event with the bonus of convenient access to parking.

Iris Children’s Garden

This quaint, charming park is located on the north end of campus behind the Williams Theatre. Situated along the bank of the St. Joseph River, the Iris Children‘s Garden is a lush space for an intimate relaxing event or a gala wedding reception. Lushly landscaped and decorated with delightful children’s artwork, your event in the garden will definitely be one to remember.

Science Mall

The Science Mall is a lovely green space between the Liberal Arts Building and Neff Hall. This lawn area sits conveniently in front of the Science Building, located in the middle of campus. It is a favorite large outdoor gathering spot for the many student organizations on campus.

St. Joe Lawn

On the Northeast edge of campus sits the St. Joe Lawn. This two-acre field is a flat expanse of land for your outdoor event.

Parking Lots

Our parking lots can be rented by groups and individuals for static* car shows taking place between 8 a.m.–6 p.m. All reservation requests will be considered pending and will need final approval from University Police. All parking lots on campus have limited electrical access, available upon request.

*Attendees must display their vehicles in a stationary, nonmoving state. Revving and burnouts are not permitted.

Visual Arts Amphitheater

Tucked between the Visual Arts Building and the Music Center, the amphitheatre provides a great outdoor stage for performances of all kinds, and the beautiful pine tree forest provides naturally beautiful backdrop.

Policies, Rentals, and Fees

The following guidelines shall be followed when a group or organization plans to have a bonfire on the Purdue Fort Wayne campus:

  • The bonfire area is for use by campus departments only. Use of the bonfire area by external entities is not permitted.
  • All bonfires require a permit from the city. The grounds division of Facilities Management will obtain the permit. A minimum of two weeks notice to obtain the permit.
  • A PFW bonfire liaison needs to be on-site during the burn time plus one hour before and one hour after the (for prep and to watch for smoldering embers). Suitable provisions need to be made that will prevent a fire from spreading to within 50 feet of any structure.
  • Special Events will request the bonfire liaison through the grounds department in Facilities Management.
  • Bonfires may not be utilized to dispose of waste material.
  • Overtime for the bonfire liaison may be incurred depending on the date/times of bonfire and will be charged to the sponsoring department or organization.
    • In the event of overtime charges, the hourly rate is $25 per hour with a four hour minimum.
  • The bonfire liaison on site is solely responsible for the maintenance of the bonfire. The bonfire liaison will build, stoke, and extinguish the bonfire. Bonfire liaison has the authority to douse the bonfire if the situation appears unsafe or activities around the fire have gotten out of hand.
  • In the event of rain, the area around the bonfire will get soggy and muddy. This can directly hamper PFW’s ability to build and/or maintain the bonfire.
  • A bonfire shall be in the permanent fire pit location and shall not burn longer than three hours.
  • Fuel for the bonfire shall consist only of dry firewood. The fire shall not be ignited with flammable liquids.
  • The grounds department will supply the wood for the bonfire. The cost of the wood will be charged to the sponsoring department or organization. The current cost is $50.00 per bonfire.
  • The area directly behind the amphitheater is the only on-campus approved site for bonfires.
  • All bonfires are to be coordinated through the Special Events who will work in conjunction with Facilities Management.
  • Cooking with the bonfire is not allowed. Bonfires are for display only.
  • Jumping over the bonfire or general horseplay near the fire will not be allowed.
  • There is no electricity at the bonfire site.
  • There are no restroom facilities at the bonfire site.
  • Alcohol is NOT permitted at the bonfire site.

Request Form

The following guidelines shall be followed when a group or organization plans to use the firepit on the Purdue Fort Wayne campus:

  • Firepit is for use by campus groups or organizations only. Use of firepit by external entities is not permitted.
    • Student organizations utilizing the firepit are required to have their advisor or other faculty/staff                               member on site for duration of event.
  • Screen must be closed while fire is burning.
  • Persons using the firepit will supply their own wood (DuraFlame or similar fire logs are recommend)
  • No items other than wood should be burned in the firepit
  • Maximum burn time is three hours
  • Accelerants such as lighter fluid are prohibited
  • A three gallon bucket (minimum) of water is required near firepit. A five gallon bucket or active hose is preferred. Special Events will arrange for a bucket to be supplied.
  • Grounds department will dispose of ashes the next day when cool.
  • The area near the Mastodon Way between Walb Union and the Friends Pavilion is the only on-campus approved site for the firepit.
  • After reservation request is approved, Special Events will arrange with Grounds Department to have firepit placed in the approved location for the event.
  • Grounds will provide hose access to Walb Union. Special Events will arrange to check out a key to the hose spigot for the client reserving the firepit.
  • Jumping over the firepit or general horseplay near the fire will not be allowed.
  • There is no electricity at the firepit site.
  • Alcohol is NOT permitted at the firepit site.

Request Form

Purdue Fort Wayne maintains a strict tent policy. All tents must be secured by water barrels, unless noted otherwise. In the event that only a staked tent will accommodate your needs, renter will be required to sign a damage waiver prior to tent installation confirming they understand they (renter) are responsible for all damages/repairs. Additionally, a $250 fee will be assessed to the renter to have utilities marked. All load-in/load-out times for tent placement must be confirmed with your event coordinator prior to the event. No portable fixture can be staked or setup in the grass that may disrupt or damage electrical/water/or gas lines.

  • Blue Barrels/Recycling Bins: $5 each (four required per outdoor site)

Tables and Chairs (available as needed/as approved)

  • Six-Foot Tables: $2.50 each
  • Folding Chairs: $1.75 each

Sandwich Boards (available as needed/as approved)

  • $5.00 each

Outdoor equipment is extremely limited. Please speak to your event coordinator early about your needs. 

Cleaning

  • $50.00 per site
  • Additional Cleaning (exceeds standard cleaning efforts): $50 per hour
  • Damage Repairs: $50 per hour plus actual cost of materials

Labor

  • All labor as needed for event requirements outside of normal operating hours or staffing levels will be billed to client.
  • If you will need custodial staff to monitor your event, you may be charged for labor if the event occurs outside of normal operating hours.
  • A/V Tech: $55 per hour (four hour minimum)
  • Alcohol Liaison: $45 per hour (four hour minimum)
  • Security: $60 per hour (four hour minimum)*

*All non-PFW or company-in-residence events must have a minimum of one security officer for every 500 persons in attendance.
