John Egger

Dr. John Okley Egger is an Associate Professor of Music, Director of Music Education, and the Assistant Director of the School of Music at PurdueUniversity Fort Wayne. He teaches undergraduate courses in general music for elementary and secondary education, rehearsal techniques, instrumentalteaching, student teaching supervision, and introductory music classes. Before his appointment at Purdue University Fort Wayne, Dr. Egger was agraduate teaching assistant in elementary music method courses and worked with instrumental ensembles at the University of Kentucky. His K-12teaching experience included work in the Clinton Public Schools and the Vicksburg Warren School District in Mississippi. Dr. Egger is an activeresearcher and presenter, having shared his work at state, national, and international conferences. His research interests focus on teacher effectiveness,preservice teacher preparation, and LGBTQIA+ Instrumental Community music engagement. He earned his Ph.D. in Music Education from theUniversity of Kentucky in Fall 2014. He also holds an M.A. in Music and Music Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a B.M.E. fromthe University of Southern Mississippi. In addition, he has completed all three levels of Orff-Schulwerk training. Dr. Egger is a member of numerousprofessional organizations, including the American Educational Research Association, American Orff-Schulwerk Association, College Music Society,Indiana Music Educators Association, Kentucky Music Educators Association, International Society for Music Education, National Association for MusicEducation, Organization of American Kodály Educators, and the Society for Research in Music Education.
