Indian Performance Series

Guitar Prasanna Band

Saturday, March 7                7:30 p.m.

Purdue Fort Wayne Rhinehart Music Center
Auer Performance Hall

Guitar Prasanna is one of the most renowned and internationally acclaimed artists to have emerged from the Indian subcontinent. He is a pioneer in performing traditional Indian Classical Carnatic music on a modern electric guitar and is known worldwide for that innovation. Prasanna also is recognized internationally for his expertise in jazz, rock, and fusion music, and for performing and recording with a number of multi-Grammy Award–winning artists.

Guitar Prasanna will be joined by fellow musicians Shalini Lakshmi on vocals; Matt Geraghty on bass guitar; and Mauricio Zotarelli on drums. Shalini is a phenomenally talented singer whose unique and evocative singing combines Carnatic, Hindustani, rock, rhythm and blues, jazz, and operatic styles of singing.  Matt Geraghty is a multi-instrumentalist who studied with Professor Brian Torff, a virtuoso bassist and head of jazz studies at Fairfield University in Connecticut. The band for the evening is complete with Brazilian-born and New York City-based drummer and composer Mauricio Zottarelli, who has been on the forefront of the jazz, Latin, and Brazilian music circles for many years.

International music lovers will not want to miss this incredibly affordable performance. Purdue Fort Wayne College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) and Shruti, the Indian Cultural Society of Fort Wayne, have made it possible for tickets to be priced at $10 each. Students with a school ID are admitted free of charge. Guitar Prasanna Band is provided with support from the Shruti Indian Cultural Society and the Purdue Fort Wayne CVPA.

The Purdue Fort Wayne CVPA and Shruti are concluding their eighth season offering Indian cultural experiences for audiences in northeast Indiana and are pleased to present yet another exciting collaboration to introduce patrons to some of the most acclaimed international Indian performers in music, dance, and theatre.
