Scholarship Requirements

What you need to know.

Just like in high school, scholars must complete activities in college to help them stay on track for success and maintain their scholarship.

Each year of college, scholars must complete the following three annual College Performance Requirements:

  1. Earn at least 30 credits each academic year.
  2. File the FAFSA by April 15.
  3. Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

Your college success coach is a great resource and can help you manage your scholarship requirements.

Student Resources

College Success Coaches are dedicated staff members assigned to each of our 21st Century Scholars and plays a pivotal role in advancing the educational and career opportunities. Their role is to support our scholars during their time at PFW. Scholars can schedule one on one meetings with our coaches or attend events that our coaches plan.

Each 21st Century Scholar has access to a ScholarTrack account. ScholarTrack allows you to monitor your credit completion for the year and your credit bank. If you do not have a ScholarTrack account you can create one. Once you enter college, you will need to upgrade your account to see the new credit completion and credit bank features.

Questions about financial aid? Contact the Financial Aid office. They can help you navigate any issues, questions, or concerns about financial aid.

Your 21st Century Scholars award covers up to four years (eight semesters) of tuition at public universities in Indiana, including Purdue University Fort Wayne. Because the award is tuition-only, 21st Century Scholars award does not include other costs associated with college, such as housing, meals, textbooks, and miscellaneous expenses.

With a little over half of the cost of college attendance still remaining after 21st Century Scholars award is applied, it’s important to look for additional sources of aid. We encourage our 21st Century Scholars to consider the following financial support systems that Purdue Fort Wayne has offers:

  • Scholarships
  • Grants
  • Federal Work Study
  • Loans
  • Summer Aid

You should continue to use ScholarTrack as a way to monitor your progress with completing 21st Century Scholarship requirements. You will need to upgrade your high school account into a college account by taking the following steps:

  • Log into ScholarTrack
  • Click My Account
  • Select Upgrade My Account

Your College Success Coach is available to support you and offer guidance throughout your time at PFW.

The credit bank keeps track of all college credit hours earned in excess of 30. If you brought with you AP, IB, and/or dual credits from high school, those credits will be logged in your ScholarTrack credit bank. As a current student, if you earn more than 30 credit hours in the academic year (including summer courses), those surplus credits will also be in your ScholarTrack credit bank. You can use these accrued credit hours in the future, if at any time during your college career you are in need of additional credit hours to meet your 30 per year credit completion requirement. You are able to access and review your credit bank information on ScholarTrack.

You should double-check your ScholarTrack credit bank to see if you have any credit hours reported that can help you fill in the gap. If you still do not have enough credit hours, you should talk to your college success coach and academic advisor about taking summer classes to help you earn more credit hours. If summer credits and your credit bank are still not enough—and you have extenuating circumstances that prevented you from being able to meet your credit completion requirements—you will need to work with your College Success Coach to file a 21st Century Scholarship state appeal for unmet credit completion requirements.

The scholarship only covers 100 percent of your tuition and/or remaining tuition fees after scholarships.

21st Century Scholars are required to complete a minimum of 12 credit hours to be a full-time student. Generally, this is four classes. However, it is recommended students take 15 credit hours per semester to achieve the 30-credit hour per year requirement.

The following are some reasons why scholars have lost their scholarship in the past:

  • Not filing the FAFSA by the April 15 deadline
  • SAP suspension/Cumulative GPA drops below a 2.0
  • Academic separation with the university
Not meeting the 30-credit hours per year requirement

21st Century Scholars allows up to eight years to complete your degree. Every student’s situation is different. Please discuss with your College Success Coach if you are interested in taking a break.
