Welcome to the Department of Psychology

If you are interested in learning more about basic aspects of people's behavior and solutions to behavioral problems from a scientific perspective, psychology may be the major for you.

The psychology major at Purdue Fort Wayne provides a solid foundation in the main areas of psychology, including statistics and research methods, developmental psychology, social and personality psychology, abnormal psychology, learning, cognitive psychology, and psychobiology.  In addition, our program offers flexibility with many specialized courses such as adolescent development, death and dying, cross-cultural psychology, clinical psychology, psychology of women, and many others. Several of our courses provide the opportunity to do service learning in a variety of community agencies. We also offer a practicum in psychotherapy and a field placement course in which you work for a semester in a community social service or mental-health setting.

Our students have the opportunity to work closely with faculty members on research beyond the classroom. Some student-faculty collaborations have led to significant research findings that have been presented at regional and national conferences and published in professional journals. Students may also have the opportunity to be undergraduate teaching assistants with several of our faculty.

To learn more about career opportunities available to you as a psychology major and additional ways to get involved, explore the sections on “Opportunities for Students” and “Career Information.” To get student perspectives on the psychology experience at Purdue Fort Wayne, check out the “Major Factor” videos located to the right.
