about us

environmental health and safety

Who we are.

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) office serves as a consultant to the university community for construction health and safety, environmental health, hazardous materials, industrial hygiene, injury prevention, laser safety, occupational safety, and radiation safety. We assist in monitoring regulatory compliance with various federal, state, and university regulations involving environmental, health and safety issues. Our services include training, consultation, emergency response, and waste removal.

Our Integrated Safety Plan (ISP) is the strategic plan for safety at Purdue University Fort Wayne. It provides a structure to communicate environmental, health and safety issues across the organization. Working toward increased awareness, the Integrated Safety Plan provides a mechanism for safety committees, self-audits, and departmental indemnification from regulatory fines.

Regulatory Compliance

What you need to know.

Purdue Fort Wayne is required to comply with all applicable state and federal regulations affecting things such as chemical-waste generation, radionuclide use, public buildings, transportation of hazardous materials, and food service. Academic departments and other administrative units should consult Environmental Health and Safety staff for advice and training on issues related to regulatory compliance in these areas. Our staff members conduct periodic inspections and audits of campus operations and facilities in order to assess needs and lend assistance. We work with deans, directors, department heads, safety committees, individual staff members, research groups, and other work groups to provide training and information.
