Hanan Alyami, Ph.D., Mathematics Education

Hanan Alyami is an assistant professor of mathematics education at Purdue University Fort Wayne, holding a dual appointment in the Department of Teacher Education and the Department of Mathematical Sciences where she works with preservice teachers in both mathematics content and methods courses. Her scholarship focuses on how learners develop conceptual understanding of foundational matematical ideas, particularly angle measure, proportional reasoning, and spatial thinking. Her research has been published in journals such as Mathematical Thinking and Learning, International Journal of Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education, and School Science and Mathematics.

Dr. Alyami's work also explores interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning, especially within integrated STEM contexts. She is particularly interested in designing learning experiences that connect mathematics to phenomena such as light, art, and real-world problem solving. In addition to her research, she is actively engaged in teacher education and professional service, contributing to curriculum development and initiatives that support effective mathematics teaching.
