PFW Story
'Where My River Runs' Workshop
On Saturday, November 20, the Environmental Resources Center at Purdue Fort Wayne hosted a workshop to a group of 15 teachers and outreach educators that showcased a new education project about watersheds and rivers. Where My River Runs, a curriculum guide on watershed awareness concepts for students in grades 1 through 5, was designed by veteran teachers and watershed professionals. It covers lessons on the watershed concept, the history of the St. Joseph River watershed, water usage and water quality.
The original curriculum guide was funded by a grant received by the St. Joseph River Watershed Initiative from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s Clean Water grants program. It was released in 2009 and distributed to schools and other education programs.
The Environmental Resources Center, one of PFW's Centers of Excellence, promotes the understanding and conservation of the region's natural resources through scientific research, educational opportunities, and community outreach.
