Mattel toy dinosaur named after Auburn man

When Auburn man James Farlow received an email message from a colleague at the Canadian Museum of Nature asking if Farlow was aware a new toy dinosaur had been named after him, he said he thought it was a joke.

Farlow, an adjunct professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University Fort Wayne, is known internationally for his work on dinosaurs, focusing on fossil footprints and trackways.

“One of the things I work on is fossilized dinosaur tracks and so a couple of years ago, some Brazilian and Italian colleagues named a newly discovered kind of dinosaur trackway from Brazil after me," said Farlow.

They named it Farlowichnus.

Then came the latest Jurassic Park movie. If you go to Walmart in the toy section now, or any toy store, you can find a new Mattel toy dinosaur bearing that very name.
