Indiana hopes high school seniors repeat financial aid filing success
Indiana is beginning a new college financial aid season seeking a repeat of last year’s success in getting high school seniors to submit a form that can provide access to more than $1.4 billion.
The 2026–27 Free Application for Federal Student Aid filing window opened in late September, ahead of the typical Oct. 1 launch. Indiana’s deadline is April 15.
When completing the FAFSA, students must list at least one but no more than 20 colleges to receive their information. Schools use the data to determine students’ federal aid eligibility, and many states and colleges use it to award their own aid, according to the Federal Student Aid website.
This can help students compare college costs, said Ron Herrell, the financial aid director at Purdue University Fort Wayne.
