Drouin awarded prestigious Schrey Professorship by Purdue University Board of Trustees

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Michelle Drouin, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at Purdue University Fort Wayne and internationally recognized researcher and speaker on issues related to technology, relationships, couples, and sexuality, has been bestowed the prestigious title of Jack W. Schrey Professor of Psychology by the Purdue University Board of Trustees. Final approval from the board took place on Friday.

The purpose of professorships such as this is to enrich the intellectual environment of Purdue University Fort Wayne by attracting and retaining exceptional faculty. Selection is based on outstanding original, creative, and productive achievements in scholarship and research that have been internationally recognized.

“Professor Drouin is a wonderful exemplar of the contributions university faculty can make in the creation of new knowledge through primary and applied research, in the transference of knowledge through outstanding teaching and mentoring, and in contributions to their communities through their service,” said Carl Drummond, vice chancellor for academic affairs and enrollment management, Purdue Fort Wayne. “I cannot be more proud of her accomplishments. This recognition is well-earned.”

Drouin has served the university in multiple capacities since 2005. Her research has been cited worldwide and she has been a source for multiple prominent news outlets including CBS, CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, and others.

“I am so thrilled and honored to receive this award,” Drouin said. “I will continue to devote myself to all endeavors at Purdue Fort Wayne that help to enrich the students' experiences and our university's reputation. My goals have always included the nurturing of meaningful connections with other experts in the field so that I can bolster opportunities for my students.”

The Jack W. Schrey Professorship was established by the Purdue University Board of Trustees in 1986 and has been financed by gifts from the Frank Freimann Charitable Trust, Magnavox Government & Electronics Company, and many friends of Mr. Schrey.

Drouin is the third member of the Purdue Fort Wayne faculty to possess the Schrey professorship. The first was bestowed on Lowell W. Beineke, an internationally known researcher in the field of graph theory. He held the professorship with honor and distinction until his retirement in May. In 2001, a second professorship was awarded to Frank Paladino, an international leader in conservation biology and physiological ecology.

Drouin earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Cornell University in 1996, and her doctorate in experimental psychology from the University of Oxford in England in 2004. Since 2018, she has also served as a senior research scientist at the Parkview Mirro Center for Research and Innovation in Fort Wayne.
