About Us
Environmental Resources Center

A Message from the Director
Research and conservation unite.
The Environmental Resources Center is one of the Centers of Excellence at Purdue Fort Wayne. You can learn more about us below, including our mission and vision.
We interact with the general public in a variety of ways, including educational outreach events, community engagement, and social media. ERC associates also routinely serve on community boards.
Since its origin in 2000 with a focus on imperiled species, it has been expanded to add the pillars of wetlands and water quality, and now sustainability.
Out of view, a majority of our activities are research-oriented. Most projects focus on the ecology of imperiled animals and plants, their habitats, and on management practices that promote a prosperous landscape. Funding for these projects is external to the university budget and comes from agencies desiring the work. The research "staff" is comprised of collaborative faculty and their students, both undergraduate and graduate.
In addition to our research endeavors, we actively participate in education and outreach with the community, routinely serving on advisory boards and giving public presentations on a variety of topics.
We invite you to engage with us however works for you. Like us on Facebook and sign up for our “monthlyish” newsletter.

Mission
Promoting understanding.
The mission of the Environmental Resources Center is to promote the understanding and conservation of the natural resources of the region through scientific research, educational opportunities, and outreach.

Vision
Providing guidance.
The Environmental Resources Center will be a regionally and environmentally focused organization with substantial research capacity, not dedicated to the acquisition of land or the management of specific parcels, and that is free of administrative boundaries in terms of operation. The center will provide objective guidance, explore solutions, and work to bridge gaps in mission and communication. We will be well positioned to support a formal structure which focuses on environmental issues, with an array of faculty with complementary interests and expertise in natural resources.
