Student Government Association

Your representatives.

 

Your executive branch of the Student Government Association consists of the student body president, vice president of legislation, and vice president of finance. The three officers are elected each spring by the student body and serve one-year terms, which begin in May.

President
The student body president serves as the primary representative and advocate for students to the university leadership; represents the Student Government Association at official university events and at board of trustees meetings; holds veto power over legislation passed by the student senate; and presides over all Student Government Association meetings. The president also makes student appointments to university committees, including the Student Travel Committee and the Campus Appeals Board.

Vice President of Legislation
The vice president of legislation serves as the president of the student senate and is responsible for recruiting and training senators; presiding over meetings of the student senate; appointing senate committee chairs; and assisting with the implementation of senate legislation and resolutions. This position also serves as a nonvoting, ex officio member of all senate committees.

Vice President of Finance
The vice president of finance serves as the chief financial officer of the Student Government Association and represents the Student Government Association on matters related to the budget and academic issues. This positions serves as the chair of the Allocations Committee, works closely with the Student Government Association Media Board, and represents student government on the University Budget Committee.

Student Body President

Mikayla Haggarty

Mikayla Haggarty is an organizational leadership student with a concentration in human resources. Haggarty has served in the FRIENDS of the university pantry and fitness center, as well as working as a student success coach before joining student government. As Purdue Fort Wayne’s student body president, Haggarty has plans to promote diversity and overall student engagement on campus, and she has the voice and knowledge to create a positive impact. Haggarty encourages students to schedule a meeting to push for change.

Vice President of Legislation

Maleah Boyd

Maleah Boyd is a psychology student with a minor in music. She has had the privilege of holding many positions on campus, including student success coach, fitness center staff member, and now vice president of legislation. In this role, Boyd hopes to beautify campus and create a more welcoming environment. She desires to be someone all students can come to for help, or even just as a friend. Boyd encourages all Mastodons to stop and visit with her.

Vice President of Finance

Emma Hedrick

Emma Hedrick is a psychology student with a minor in military science. Beyond her role as vice president of finance, Hedrick has served as a student success coach, student success coach student coordinator, and student admissions representative, as well as an Army ROTC cadet and a soldier in the Indiana Army National Guard. As the vice president of finance, Hedrick aims to increase student engagement on campus, create campus traditions, and ensure that all students feel heard by their student government.
