Academic Progress Reports

Supporting Students

Recognize Success and Address Concerns.

Progress Reports are designed to support student success by creating opportunities for timely communication between instructors, students, and advisors. Progress Reports serve two primary purposes:

  1. Instructors Provide Students with Feedback

Progress Reports allow instructors to share feedback about academic performance, attendance, engagement, and other factors that may impact student success. Early feedback gives students an opportunity to take action and connect with their instructor before challenges become more difficult to overcome.

2.   Advisors and Support Offices Provide Additional Support

When instructors provide feedback, advisors and other student support offices can follow up with students to provide guidance, connect them with resources, celebrate successes, and help them develop strategies for achieving their academic goals.

Progress Reports are an important part of PFW's student success and retention efforts. They help:

  • Provide students with timely feedback about their academic progress.
  • Encourage students to seek support before challenges become barriers to success.
  • Connect students with advisors, tutoring, academic support services, and other campus resources.
  • Strengthen communication between instructors, advisors, and students.
  • Recognize academic achievement and positive classroom engagement.
  • Support student persistence and degree completion through early outreach and intervention.

When a Progress Report is submitted, students get alerted by email.

  • If the instructor reports concern for a student, the student will receive an automated email containing the instructor's Progress Report feedback (i.e., grade, absences, comments) and will be encouraged to follow up with the instructor to discuss strategies for improvement.
  • If the instructor reports that the student is doing well, the student will receive a Kudos email from the instructor recognizing their strong performance.

The goal is to inform the student of where they are and encourage them to meet with their instructor to discuss next steps.

When a Progress Report is submitted, the information is shared with the student's academic advisor and other appropriate support staff. Depending on the situation, advisors may:

  • Contact the student to discuss concerns or opportunities for improvement.
  • Help the student develop a Success Plan.
  • Connect the student with relevant campus resources.
  • Follow up on positive reports and acknowledge student success.

The goal is not to penalize students, but to ensure they receive the guidance, support, and encouragement needed to achieve their academic goals.
