Drop/Add Information

Drop and Add Classes

The add/drop course process represents a brief period at the beginning of a semester when you may change classes and receive a full refund. Before you begin the add/drop process, you should know that adding or dropping a course may:

  • Positively or negatively impact your graduation timeline and/or billing
  • Impact athletic requirements
  • Impact VA benefits
  • Impact immigration requirements

Because this process enforces changes to your academic plan, it is recommended that you work with your advisor to fully understand the consequences of adding and/or dropping a class.

If you are unsure whether to add or drop a course, your advisor is the best resource to understand which option is most appropriate for you.

The add/drop course process uses the same system as the one used for registering for classes. To get started, access the "How-To Register" link on the How-To Hub (H2H) card on your goPFW homepage.

Withdrawal Information

Course Withdrawal

The course withdrawal process represents a time frame in which students can unenroll from one or more courses after the add/drop period. This provides a formal way for students to discontinue their studies while ensuring their academic records, enrollment status, and financial aid information are updated correctly. It also helps students understand the potential impacts of their decision and connect with the appropriate campus resources before the withdrawal is finalized. Before you begin the withdrawal process, you should know that withdrawing from one or all courses may:

  • Negatively impact your graduation timeline
  • Result in financial implications
  • Impact athletic requirements
  • Impact VA benefits
  • Impact immigration requirements

Because this process enforces changes to your academic plan, it is recommended that you work with your advisor to fully understand the consequences of withdrawing from one or all courses.

If you are unsure whether to withdraw from a course, your advisor is the best resource to understand which option is most appropriate for you.

To begin the withdrawal process, follow the steps below.

  1. Ensure that the withdrawal deadline has not already passed for the current semester. Refer to the current academic calendar if you are unsure.
  2. Double-check that your grade is too low to pass by speaking with your professor(s).
  3. Understand the impact of withdrawing on your academic plan and timeline for graduation by talking with your advisor.
  4. Understand the possible financial consequences of your request by talking to Financial Aid.
  5. If you and/or your advisor decide withdrawing from one or more courses is right for you, locate the Withdrawal Form on the Registration card in GoPFW.

  8. You have 72 hours to deny the request. After 72 hours, your request will be automatically approved, and you and your advisor will be notified via email.
