Chancellor's Chili Fest raises money for The Pantry

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—The Second Annual Chancellor’s Chili Fest at Purdue University Fort Wayne was a huge success with nearly 1,000 students, faculty, and staff members in attendance, a chili cook-off, and more than $500 raised for The Pantry at Purdue Fort Wayne.

Free chili in collectible mugs was a perfect lunch on this cool and windy fall day.

“I’m thrilled to say that I have been here long enough now to have a second annual event on campus,” said Chancellor Ron Elsenbaumer. “This was my first event after I arrived here a year ago, and I’m excited to say that it has already grown and gives me an opportunity to spend time with the wonderful people who make this campus great.”

Chancellor Elsenbaumer spent several hours mingling and sampling chili from the two cook-off competitions that were a part of chili fest. Guests were invited to sample all of the chili entries in both the Department Competition and Student Organization Competition. They were each given a token to use to vote for their favorite chili.

As a bonus, guests were offered the opportunity to buy more tokens to vote, with all of the money going to The Pantry at Purdue Fort Wayne, which serves food-insecure members of the university community and the public. More than $500 was raised in just three hours.

In the Purdue University Fort Wayne Chili Cook-Off Competition, the grand prize trophy for the Department category went to TRIO Student Support Services. In the Student Organization category, the Golden Spoon went to the Human Services Organization.
