Purdue Fort Wayne ‘Day on the River 2024’ set for Thursday

The beauty of Purdue Fort Wayne’s Main Campus is enhanced by its proximity to the St. Joseph River on its western edge. For the second time in as many years, PFW is inviting students, faculty, and staff to spend a “Day on the River” so they can enjoy all that this location has to offer.

This year’s gathering will take place on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Much of the action will happen at the base of the Ron Venderly Family Bridge and parking lot 10.

Some of the activities include:

  • Kayaking – the last launches will take place at 2:45
  • Airboat rides – also launching for the last time at 2:45
  • Bike rides along the Rivergreenway – provided by Fort Wayne Outfitters & Bike Depot
  • Introduction to disc golf and the Mastodon Disc Golf Course
  • Lawn games

New for 2024, a root beer float social for members of the campus community will also take place in parking lot 10 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. This event will include music, henna, caricatures, and face painting.

PFW’s inaugural Day on the River featured friendly and highly competitive kayak races among members of the chancellor’s cabinet, PFW deans, and coaches from Mastodon Athletics. A few are expected to be back on the water to regain their crowns.
