Purdue University Fort Wayne expands club sports program with new teams, strong student demand, and transformational gift
Purdue University Fort Wayne is expanding its club sports program in a major way—driven by tremendous student interest, the addition of new competitive teams (hockey and lacrosse), and a significant gift from longtime supporter W. Paul Wolf.
Since announcing plans to grow club sports opportunities, nearly 400 students have already completed the university’s “recruit me” form, signaling strong demand from both current and prospective students eager to continue competing at the collegiate level. Information sessions have also drawn high attendance, reinforcing the program’s momentum heading into its fall 2026 launch.
Building on that enthusiasm, PFW will now offer as many as 15 club sports, including the newly added men’s hockey and men’s lacrosse. These join a dynamic lineup that includes men’s and women’s soccer, tackle football, women’s flag football, men’s and women’s rugby, coed running, men’s and women’s volleyball, disc golf, and existing programs such as men’s basketball, esports, and dance.
A major advancement for the program comes through the generosity of W. Paul Wolf, whose gift will directly support the growth and visibility of club sports at Purdue Fort Wayne.
In recognition of his support, the university will name its club sports facility the W. Paul Wolf Field, located near Dean Drive on the north side of campus by Parking Garage 3. The field will serve as a primary competition site for several teams and will include a new scoreboard to enhance the game-day experience for club-athletes and fans alike.
Wolf’s gift will also fund new uniforms, helping establish a strong and unified identity for the club sports program as it launches.
“We are incredibly grateful to Mr. Wolf for his continued generosity and belief in Purdue Fort Wayne,” said Krissy Surface. “His support allows us to elevate the student experience in meaningful ways—providing our students with high-quality facilities, resources, and a sense of pride as they represent PFW. This investment will have a lasting impact on our campus community."
The expansion of club sports is a direct response to student interest and a key part of the university’s broader commitment to engagement and belonging.
“Student experience is our top priority, and this initiative reflects what we are hearing directly from our students,” Surface said. “They want more opportunities to be involved, to compete, and to find their community on campus. Club sports create that sense of connection while allowing students to continue pursuing something they are passionate about.”
Club sports at PFW will be managed by Campus Recreation and supported by a student-led club sports council. Teams will compete regionally, often within established leagues and national organizations, providing structured competition and opportunities for postseason play.
As the program prepares for its inaugural season, university leaders see club sports as a powerful way to engage students, strengthen campus life, and expand Purdue Fort Wayne’s reach across the region.
