International college student spending surpasses $43 million in northeast Indiana
Two northeast Indiana universities remained among the Top 10 statewide for economic impact by international students—a population that contributed more than $997 million and supported about 8,350 jobs, according to a recent report.
Of the 31,000 international students statewide, about 2,000 contributed $43.4 million in the 3rd Congressional District, which generally covers northeast Indiana. About 170 jobs were supported.
Last year’s report from the international education and exchange group found about 1,750 international students contributed $44.1 million to the region.
Indiana Tech and Purdue University Fort Wayne were the only local colleges to make the state’s Top 10. There, the contributions totaled about $24 million and $16 million, respectively.
