Events Calendar

Challenge
Before launching the Drupal events calendar, campus event management and publicization were handled in a content management system that no longer met the university’s needs. This situation made it difficult for students, faculty, and the external community to find a single, comprehensive source of information about university events. The challenge was to design a modern platform that integrates a broad range of events in a user-friendly manner, ensuring widespread accessibility and boosting engagement with university events.

Solution
To address these challenges, the Office of Strategic Communications worked with an outside firm to design and develop a new events calendar built on the Drupal platform. The process engaged stakeholders from various departments to ensure the platform met a wide range of needs, including ease of use, uniform event details, and content syndication across the university website. The team also offered training sessions for staff to ensure full adoption and consistent event input from departments across campus.

The resulting events calendar features category filtering, a user-friendly interface, and a mobile-responsive design. It also allows users to subscribe to events and receive notifications that match their interests.

Result
The Purdue University Fort Wayne events calendar has been a recognized success. It has hosted more than 3,650 events, significantly enhancing the visibility of university activities and increasing engagement among university audiences. Analytics shows high calendar usage. The centralized calendar streamlines event communication and fosters a sense of community, making campus activities more accessible to a broader audience.
