Yellow Birch
Description
Rarely found in Indiana, the yellow birch occurs only on moist cool soils of the northern lakes region. The bark on young trees is shiny, bronze to brownish gray, and it peels off in thin, papery shreds. Scraped twigs yield a wintergreen scent.
