Kentucky Coffeetree
Description
The bark is characteristically coarse, with deep scale-like ridges. Its brownish-black leather seed pods hang on the tree into winter. The soft center, or pith of branches, is a bright-salmon color. Its leaves are large and bipinnately compound. The tree is adaptable and will grow under a wide range of conditions.
