Black Maple

Description
Black maple is a large tree, 60–100 feet in height. It has many characteristics similar to the sugar maple, with a few notable exceptions. The black maple grows more slowly. Its leaf is a darker green above, has smoother edges, is more three lobed, droops on the edges, has stipules or fleshy ears at the base, and has more yellow fall color. The two, the black and the sugar, often hybridize, with a varying combination of each. In Indiana, it is less common than the sugar maple.
