MEET KENNETH STERN

Kenneth S. Stern is the director of the Bard Center for the Study of Hate. An award-winning author and attorney, he was director of the division on antisemitism and extremism at the American Jewish Committee where he worked for 25 years. He has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court. His report on the militia movement, released ten days before the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, predicted a wave of anti-government extremism. He was lead drafter of the International Holocaust Remembrance Association’s working definition of antisemitism and served on the defense team for David Irving v. Deborah Lipstadt, a historic Holocaust denial case.

He is editor of Simply Human: A Guide to Understanding and Combating Hate published in 2025 by the University of Toronto Press.

*Sponsored by the Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (pfw.edu/ihgs) and the Honors Porgram (pfw.edu/honors). This program made possible by the Jewish Federation of Fort Wayne.
