Mandatory Reporters and Campus Security Authorities
Mandatory reporters—and Campus Security Authorities—are adult individuals who are responsible for reporting any Title IX violations to the university as soon as possible. They are required to report incidents that they have personally observed as well as incidents reported to them. Offenses must be reported to the designated office on campus. Additionally, all mandatory reporters are required to report instances of suspected child abuse in accordance with Indiana law.
Title IX mandatory reporter must report any instance of discrimination or unfair treatment on the basis of sex or sexual harassment. Reportable offenses under Title IX are the following:
- Discrimination on the basis of sex
- Sexual harassment
- Stalking
- Relationship violence
- Sexual volence
- Sexual exploitation
- Unwelcome sexual conduct (of a verbal, written, or physical nature)
Reporting Process
Know what steps to take.
If you are a mandatory reporter and someone informs you of an offense that falls under Title IX, report it immediately by following these steps:
- Ensure safety of the victim and yourself. Call 911 in case of an emergency.
- Inform the victim of your mandatory reporter status.
- Listen. Get the necessary reporting information from the victim.
- Report the incident. Contact us at [email protected].
- Provide assistance. The victim has the option to self-report the incident for investigation. Filing a report with the police does not require the victim to press charges.
- Refer the victim to relevant resources for additional support.
Training
Stay in-the-know.
Mandatory reporters are required to complete the assigned training in Success Factors. Campus Security Authorities are required to take Purdue’s CSA training. Additionally, there is optional training available from Purdue’s Office of the Vice President for Ethics and Compliance site.
