Dr. Brett Wilkinson is an Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Counselor Education program. He also serves as Director of the PFW Institute for Counseling Research (ICR) and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Indiana. He earned B.A.’s in both psychology and philosophy from the University of Kentucky and his M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Eastern Kentucky University. He earned his Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Northern Colorado with a cognate in couples and family counseling and a minor in statistics and research methods.
His research involves explorations of: the phenomenological grounds of humanistic counseling practice, the role of cognitive complexity in counselor training, therapeutic change mechanisms, and metacognitive supervision strategies. Dr. Wilkinson presents at local, regional, and national conferences, serves as Associate Editor for the American Counseling Association's flagship Journal of Counseling and Development and the Journal of Humanistic Counseling, and is coauthor of the textbook Educational Psychology for Learners: Connecting Theory, Research, and Application.
