Dr. Bongsu Kang has been a mechanical engineering professor at Purdue Fort Wayne since 2000, teaching courses primarily in the areas of engineering mechanics, system dynamics and control, and machine design. Besides teaching, he has professional expertise in dynamics, vibrations, and machine design. As a faculty member of Civil and Mechanical Engineering Department, he has been serving on various committees at all levels of the university. Prior to his teaching career at Purdue Fort Wayne, Dr. Kang had 5 years of industrial experience as a mechanical engineer at the Hyundai Technical Research and Development Center in Seoul, Korea, which made him well-qualified for engineering education. Besides teaching, he has been active in scholarly work conducting research in the areas of nonlinear dynamics, friction-induced chaotic vibrations, elastic wave motion, wavelet analysis, and ultrasonic welding. He has received various government and industry funded research grants and authored a number of journal publications. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University for his analytical study on vibration and instability of disc brakes.
