myBLUEprint: FAQ for Advisors

What is myBLUEprint?

myBLUEprint is a web-based tool used to monitor academic progress toward degree completion. It combines degree requirements and completed coursework into an easy-to-read worksheet.  The color-coded worksheet allows students to easily view requirements that are still needed to earn their degree.  The myBLUEprint degree audit is used to certify completion of degree requirements for graduation.

What is a worksheet?

A myBLUEprint worksheet is a review of past, current and “planned” coursework that provides information about completed and outstanding requirements necessary to fulfill a degree/major/minor/concentration.

Can students view course information in myBLUEprint?

Yes, by clicking on a course in the worksheet students can view the course description, prerequisites required, and available course sections for the upcoming term. Course sections in myBLUEprint do not show course location. The Schedule of Classes search feature in the student portal will show course location.

What is the Student Information block?

The Student Information block appears on every undergraduate student worksheet and includes information intended to guide student advising. Information in this block will only appear if it is relevant to the student. Informational items include:

  1. Placement test information
  2. Statewide general education core or transfer single articulation pathway (TSAP) completion
  3. Student athlete status
  4. 21st Century Scholar eligibility (final eligibility must be determined by Financial Aid)
  5. Honors program eligibility (final eligibility must be determined by the Honors program)
  6. Graduation application reminder

What is the “what if” feature?

The “what if” feature allows students to hypothetically change their major, minor or concentration. The “what if” worksheet shows courses required for the hypothetical major, minor or concentration, courses already taken that satisfy requirements, and courses still needed to complete the program. The following data elements should be populated when requesting a “what if” worksheet to ensure the most accurate data is retrieved: Catalog Term, Program, Major, Concentration (if applicable), and Minor (if desired).

What if I see an error on an audit (e.g. wrong course listed as a requirement)?

Issues can be reported with the online myBLUEprint Issues Form

How can I request a substitution or waiver or other adjustment on a student's worksheet?

Adjustments can be requested with the online myBLUEprint Substitutions and Waivers Form.

Our department currently keeps their own notes on their advisees. What are the benefits of switching to this new system?

Notes entered in myBLUEprint become part of the student’s record and any faculty or administrative staff member with access to myBLUEprint can view the notes. This provides advisors a more complete understanding of the student’s advising history, and it also allows faculty and staff to encourage students to follow through on advice given. Accessing myBLUEprint requires FERPA certification, so all users will have knowledge of FERPA guidelines.  See the myBLUEprint Best Practices document for additional guidelines regarding advising notes.

Sometimes I have advisee discussions with students who aren’t my assigned advisees. Can I add notes to any student’s record?

Yes, if you have access to myBLUEprint, you can enter notes on any student record.

What does the Term Calculator show?

The Term Calculator shows a cumulative GPA after filling in hypothetical grade information.  Students enter anticipated grades for in-progress courses.  MyBLUEprint utilizes earned credits and current GPA, combined with in-progress grades projected, to estimate a new GPA based on the data entered.

What does the Graduation Calculator show?

The Graduation Calculator allows the student to enter the GPA they would like to have at graduation. The Graduation Calculator shows what GPA the student must average over their remaining semesters in order to obtain the desired GPA at graduation.

What does the Advice Calculator show?

The Advice Calculator shows students how many credits must be earned at a certain GPA to achieve the desired GPA.

What should I do if I have suggestions for improving this tool?

You may contact your DAAC member. We appreciate any comments or suggestions for ways to improve myBLUEprint.
