Helping with Access and Security
IT Services provides computer-user accounts for Purdue Fort Wayne students, faculty, staff, faculty emeriti, and guests. This network account grants access to campus computers and software, email, wireless access, and more. The following information offers more specifics on accounts and passwords.
- Change Your Password
Passwords are required on all computer accounts in order to secure individual and university data. The process for receiving and creating passwords varies depending on the type of account. All Purdue Fort Wayne account passwords need to follow the same conventions. These links give more information about accounts and passwords:
- Student Accounts
When you are admitted to Purdue Fort Wayne you are automatically given an account. To activate your account, click the First-Time User link in goPFW. During the setup process you will choose a password. This password expires every 120 days, and you will be notified by email when you need to change this password. Your username and password will help access the following:
- Microsoft Office 365, which includes email, OneDrive, Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Online coursework, registering for classes, financial aid, and more through goPFW
- Use of the student-access computing labs
- Personal storage space
Student accounts are to be used to complete tasks related to university responsibilities only and are subject to the terms of the Purdue Fort Wayne Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct. Student accounts are active the first term of enrollment and remain active as long as students remain enrolled in classes. In general, student accounts are deleted one year after class enrollment ends.
Secondary accounts for student workers can be requested by filling out the Student Staff Account Form.
- Faculty and Staff Accounts
Faculty and staff will receive
a Purdue Fort Wayne network account once their department completes the New Employee Account Request Form. Faculty and staff receive their username and password viaan email notification from IT Services. Faculty and staff accounts include the following:- Microsoft Office 365, which includes email, OneDrive, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Access to
goPFW - Purdue Fort Wayne network software
- O drive access—shared departmental space
- I drive access—individual storage space
- Web space, if requested
If you need training, submit a ticket to the Help Desk. You can make changes and add or remove resources in your accounts by completing the Account Modification Form. Your account will remain active until exit from Purdue Fort Wayne.
- Banner Accounts
Banner accounts allow access to student information, class rosters, and room availability, among other things. Users can register students for classes, add and remove holds, and more. If you are a new employee and need access to Banner, have your supervisor complete the New Employee Account Request Form, or if you need to add Banner access, complete the Account Modification Form. IT Services will create the Banner account, assign a temporary password, and deliver the account information to the Registrar’s office. The Registrar’s office will contact you. Training is required prior to access. If you have forgotten your Banner account password, or it no longer works, email Help Desk for assistance. Contact Help Desk for any Banner related issues.
- Retiree and Emeritus Accounts
Emeriti and official retirees may retain their Purdue Fort Wayne account, email address, personal storage space, and personal web space upon retiring. Access to Banner, departmental storage, and web space are removed unless the retiree is staying on in an official capacity.
The Emeritus/Retiree Account Form should be filled out to initiate the process of keeping or deleting the account. IT Services technicians are available to assist you with any questions you might have or to provide one-on-one assistance with saving files, address-book contacts, etc.
- Purdue West Lafayette Accounts
Purdue Career Accounts
A Purdue Career Account is created for all Purdue Fort Wayne employees to access a variety of Purdue resources, including payroll information. Pay stubs can be viewed or downloaded from the
OnePurdue portal on the Purdue University website.Your Purdue Career Account is separate from your Purdue Fort Wayne network account. You can find your Purdue Career Account user ID on the Employee tab in
goPFW . If you do not know your Career Account password, email a request to the Help Desk. The Help Desk staff will contact you with further information.Mainframe AccountA Purdue mainframe account gives staff members access to legacy-student data. To reset your Purdue mainframe account password, email the Help Desk.
- IU Accounts
Indiana University affiliate accounts allow faculty and staff members to access software programs available through IU. Faculty and staff can request an IU affiliate account by contacting the Help Desk. IT Services will send a university ID number to create an account. Go to Account Management at IU to establish your account. IU affiliate accounts allow access to the following information:
- Affinity—donor database
- One.IU—student database
- OVPIA—grant writing program
