Purdue Fort Wayne Human Resources and Office of Institutional Equity is pleased to offer information and guidelines for supervisors in regards to flexible work options.
These guidelines are being offered to assist supervisors and their exempt and nonexempt employees in determining if flexible work arrangements or remote work are viable options to consider to help employees balance their work schedule with other outside demands.

Remote Work
Remote work options are also known as telecommuting, telework, virtual work, and mobile work. Remote work is used to describe work done outside the traditional on-site work environment. These jobs may be completely virtual or mobile, or may consist of arrangements that enable the employee to work from home a few days per week or month.
Follow the below steps to successfully prepare for and submit a remote work request:
- The supervisor and employee should review the Remote Work Guidelines and Remote Work FAQs. These guidelines reviews job function, workplace safety and data security requirements.
- The employee should complete the Remote Work Assessment and Agreement form with Telework selected as the type of flexible work arrangement. The DocuSign form is used to confirm remote work arrangements and is routed to obtain supervisor and unit head approval.
- If you are requesting to work remotely outside of Indiana for more than 22 days, you will need to complete the Change in Duty Station form in advance of beginning your work from the alternate location. Change in Duty Station requests are reviewed to ensure remote work is feasible in the alternate location.

Flexible work arrangements refer to altering the current work schedule and intended to offer variation from the normal work day’s hours. For example, an employee who needs to work 9:00 to 6:00 rather than the regular 8:00 to 5:00 schedule.
Follow the below steps to successfully prepare for and submit a remote work request:
- The supervisor and employee should complete the Flexible Work Arrangement Proposal Form to initiate discussion and approval of your flexible work arrangement.
- The employee should complete the Flexible Work Agreement The DocuSign form is used to confirm remote work arrangements and is routed to obtain supervisor and unit head approval.
