Helping You Succeed
In the Honors Program, you will discover ways—in addition to university scholarships—to help fund your education. Here are some of the educational opportunities we can help with:
- Honors research and creative endeavor projects
- Summer research grants
- International travel
- Opportunities to study abroad
- Conference travel to present research at regional, national, and international professional conferences
- Internships
Make sure that you’ve applied for summer-semester scholarships before Friday, May 10. Late applications will be considered if they’re sent in before Friday, May 24. Please note that the Honors Program Council will give preference to applications from active honors students enrolled in Honors courses that are doing work toward an Honors Pin or Honors Medal and Certificate.
Research or Creative Endeavor Assistantship
This scholarship promotes closer collaboration between faculty and honors students in research or creative endeavors. It will provide up to $1,000 to compensate you for time engaged in research or creative endeavors under the direction of a faculty mentor.
For this scholarship, you must have the following information on your application:
- A project description
- An explanation of the your responsibilities and how this project will contribute to your intellectual development, academic progress, or future research goals
- A budget specifying expected sources of funding
- A letter of support from the faculty mentor
An important criterion in evaluating these applications is whether your participation goes above and beyond fulfilling the research needs of the faculty member.
Teaching Assistantship
This scholarship (up to $1,000) offers you the opportunity to work with a faculty mentor and serve as a teaching assistant in non-Honors courses.
To apply for this scholarship you must submit the following information:
- The name of the course for which you will be a teaching assistant and your relevant qualifications
- An explanation of the your responsibilities and how this project will contribute to your intellectual development, academic progress, or future research goals
- A budget specifying expected sources of funding
- A letter of support from the faculty mentor
Research or Creative Endeavor Support Funds
This scholarship of up to $1,000 is intended to support independent student-designed research or creative endeavor as part of an Honors independent study, summer project, or the Honors project. It can pay for equipment, research expenses, travel, or any other reasonable research expenses.
To apply for this scholarship, you must have the following information:
- A description of the project that includes a timeline for completion
- A budget specifying expected sources of funding
- A letter of support from all faculty mentors
Travel Funding
If you are looking for conference or research-travel funds, consider applying through the Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. You must submit your travel-funding request electronically, no later than the first day of the month prior to the month of the trip’s departure date. If the trip is in October, your request is due by September.
If you are interested in conference travel or studying abroad, check with the Honors Program about travel-related scholarships.
Conference Travel
This scholarship (up to $500) is intended to support students in attending professional conferences.
On your application, provide the following information:
- Information about the conference and your role in the conference
A statement about why attending this conference is significant for your intellectual development, academic progress, or future research goals- A budget specifying expected sources of funding
- Letters of support from faculty mentors
You will be expected to show that you have applied for travel funding from the Office of Sponsored Programs and Office of Student Affairs. You will receive priority if you are presenting your
Submit your application and have your mentors submit letters of support directly to the Honors Program at combsf@pfw.edu.
Study Abroad
This scholarship (up to $1,000) is intended to help students take part in our Study Abroad Program.
You will need the following information to apply for this application:
- Copies of the appropriate forms from the Study Abroad office
- Personal statement about your goals for this study-abroad trip (e.g., Why do you want to go to this particular country or university? What are you hoping to achieve? How will it help with future academic, professional, or personal plans?)
- A budget specifying expected sources of funding
- Letters of support from any faculty mentors
