News Release

Tickets for Mike Eruizone Omnibus presentation available January 21

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Tickets for the second speaker in the 2019–20 Purdue University Fort Wayne Omnibus Speaker Series, Mike Eruzione, captain of the “Miracle on Ice” 1980 Olympic Hockey Team, will be available on Tuesday, January 21, beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The free tickets are available in person at the Larson Ticket Office in the Gates Sports Center or they can be reserved online. A convenience fee of $1 per ticket is charged for online reservations. Tickets are limited to four per person.

After playing hockey in college, on two US national teams, and in the International Hockey League, Mike Eruzione was chosen to join the 1980 United States Olympic team. He captained that team to sports history—the “Miracle on Ice” defeat of the Soviet Union—on their way to winning the gold medal in Lake Placid, New York.

The team received many accolades after their victory, including being inducted into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame. In 1999, the team was given the ultimate compliment when Sports Illustrated voted the “Miracle on Ice” as the number one sports moment of the century.

In 2002, Eruzione and his teammates had the honor of lighting the flame at the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, and two years later, he and his teammates were featured in the Disney movie Miracle.

After the victory in Lake Placid, Eruzione spent many years as a Winter Olympics commentator for ABC and CBS, and as a sports commentator for Madison Square Garden and College Sports Television.

He now serves as the director of special outreach at Boston University and travels throughout the country as a motivational speaker.

Eruzione will speak in the Auer Performance Hall in the John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center on Tuesday, February 4, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Doors to the hall will open at 7 p.m. Tickets reserved online may be picked up at the Schatzlein Box Office will-call window in the Rhinehart lobby beginning at 6:30 p.m.
