Purdue Fort Wayne honors Nodir Adilov with Outstanding Research Award for 2022-23
Nodir Adilov, a professor of economics, has received the Purdue University Fort Wayne 2022–23 Outstanding Research Award. An on-campus ceremony and reception took place on Friday afternoon.
Adilov’s work, which spans the fields of space economics, media economics, industrial organization, energy economics, and applied economics, has been featured in prominent national and international media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, and The Washington Post. He and his co-authors have also appeared in leading economics and policy journals, which included the publication of their findings on the development of the first theoretical economic models of space debris.
Among Adilov’s most recent accepted publications in space economics was an analysis of the economics of cost reductions for space launch vehicles, and he involved an undergraduate PFW economics student as a co-author in this project.
“Dr. Adilov is an exceptional researcher who has maintained an aggressive and productive record throughout his career, something that’s all the more impressive when considering he’s also been the chair of the Department of Economics and Finance for the past 11 years,” said Melissa Gruys, dean of the Doermer School of Business. “He works quietly and continuously on his own research while also serving as a wonderful mentor to junior and senior colleagues alike. He would never boast about himself, which is why this recognition from the university is so fitting.”
The Outstanding Research Award honors a tenured, full-time faculty member for outstanding performance in the area of research, scholarly activity, or creative endeavor. The honoree must have achieved an exceptional record of contributions to the body of knowledge or creative works in his or her discipline—and must also have had great success communicating that information to a wide audience. The award is sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs.
“This award is not given for accomplishments in a given year, it is accumulative,” said Carl Drummond, vice chancellor for academic affairs. “The people who have been recognized, almost all of them are full professors with long, distinguished records. It’s a recognition of a career’s contribution and scholarship.”
Adilov earned his Ph.D. and master’s in economics from Cornell University, and his bachelor’s in economics, accounting, and management from Hartwick College.
