Bands and Choral Ensemble Concert

Auer Performance Hall

Ten-time Emmy Award-winning composer Bruce Broughton (pictured left) will join us as our Symphonic Wind Ensemble and choral ensemble students perform the world premiere of Broughton’s monumental work for wind ensemble and choir, The Two Sermons. Broughton composed his music set to text written by James Weldon Johnson (pictured right). Weldon Johnson, the author of the lyrics for “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” was an American writer and renowned civil rights activist, who lead the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), starting in 1917. The other ensembles performing include the University Singers and Choral Union under the direction of Dr. William Sauerland and Jonathan Busarow, along with the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir and the PFW Symphonic Band.
