Congratulations to IPFW's team of three math majors Vreneli Brenneman, Altun Shukurlu, and Sofia Sorokina!  The team placed third out of thirty-three teams at the 2015 Indiana College Mathematics Competition, held at Taylor University on March 13, and organized by the Indiana Section of the Mathematical Association of AmericaIcon_External_Link.  IPFW math faculty coaches were Peter Dragnev and Doug Weakley.

The First and Second place teams were from Taylor University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.  93 students represented 14 colleges and universities in Indiana at this year's competition.  The competition is held every Spring in conjunction with one of the twice-annual meetings of the Indiana MAA.  This year, in observance of Pi Day, 3-14-15, the dinner after the contest was also the venue of a debate on the merits of the mathematical constants Pi and Tau, with IPFW's Professor Adam Coffman defending Pi against Tau-ist Professor Andy Rich from Manchester University.

Each team of three undergraduates works together in a classroom for two hours on a list of eight college-level mathematics problems.  This year was the 50th annual ICMC event.  Last year's 2014 contest was held here at IPFW, and the IPFW team of Vreneli Brenneman, Guchen Liu, and Altun Shukurlu also placed in the top five out of 29 teams with a tie for 3rd place.
