Biography

John F. Wellington, PhD, is emeritus of the Richard T. Doermer School of Business at Indiana University –Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). He served as dean from September 2000 to June 2008. Thereafter, he served as interim dean of the School of Business at Indiana University Kokomo (IUK) from July 2008 to June 2010. While at IUK, his charges were to find a permanent dean and to prepare the School of Business for its first AACSB maintenance of accreditation review scheduled for October 2010. Both were successfully completed.

His experience with AACSB accreditation includes leading successful maintenance reviews in December 2000 at IPFW; in November 2007 at IPFW; and in October 2010 at IUK. In each case, the review concluded without qualification or follow up reports, i.e. no sixth year review. He will serve on two AACSB maintenance review teams in 2012.

As of June 30, 2011, John is retired from IPFW and Purdue University. He maintains an active research agenda that includes study of greening within organizations, data analysis, and the interface of operations research methodology and data analysis. A peer reviewed journal paper relating to the latter topic is accepted for publication in the European Journal of Operational Research to appear in 2012. Another paper related to greening the product mix problem is currently under review. Recent (since 2008) research related achievements included best paper awards and invited paper.

John remains active in connecting the learning of the business curricula with its practice in the business community. It includes participation in the oversight and critique of course projects that connect the learning; student competitions in which current business problem of a local company is the subject/basis of the competition; and consulting with northeast Indiana companies. The competitions are national and international business plan and business analysis competitions.
