0:03 So the Pantry was started in 2017 on campus, and it was to address food insecurity amongst college 0:09 students and the community as well. So everyone's welcome in our doors. It enhances the university 0:15 as a whole and the student experience by providing food for those that are hungry. You know, you can imagine if you were a student, just in general, as far as how tight budgeting can be 0:24 for a college student. So a lot of times I hear students come say they were able to cut their grocery bill in half by visiting. 0:33 I think the pantry is super beneficial to those at Purdue Fort Wayne especially for those that don't have a vehicle to go buy groceries. It gives them something on campus that they know they can rely on 0:42 to come and get what they need. All different backgrounds walk in the door, whether you're from the U.S. Whether you're in state, out of state, 0:48 whatever background you come from. Honestly it brings people together. Our students have a unique opportunity to work in the Pantry. They learn a lot about the struggles that are real life, 0:57 and then for the student to receive the feeling of giving back in that way is a very important part of an overall college experience outside of the academic. You know I never really had the 1:08 desire to to go out of my way like this and and help others and when I got the feeling from it, you know, it kind of motivated me to do more of this. Even when I graduate I can always incorporate my skills I learned from here in order to be of service to others. 1:23 Yeah, so I think this job just helps me for the future in that all walks of life are welcome. Don't judge anyone. Whatever they're going through, just be a shoulder they can lean on. 1:33 So I I think working here has helped me not only find my voice but meet a lot of new people, but I've also spent a few years being 1:41 the supervisor here. So it's helped me get that HR supervising experience that I would like to use in the future. 1:47 It gives me an opportunity to really test my people skills. You meet everybody here. 1:53 You meet every single person, and long days, short days you really have to check yourself and realize you're helping someone else and try to make sure you're present and that you're grateful for what 2:02 you have. We're so happy to be able to provide the service and so far to be able to keep up 2:08 with the demand. It shows the university is open to everyone. We want to provide as many services 2:15 as possible to help the college dream become a reality for the student obviously then also to the community as a whole to let community members know that we're here to support them.
