IT Services Launches New Knowledge Base

Information Technology Services adds new Knowledge Base and is accessible using a new link from their site home page.A new menu link has been added to the Information Technology Services Web site which offers online technology support and documentation.

Until now there has not been one central Web location to visit for answers to technology questions.

  • IT Services' how-to pages were scattered throughout the old IT Services Web site.
  • eLearning support topics were only available from the eLearning landing page.
  • IPFW students, faculty and staff often did not know where to look for information on the old IT Services Web site.

The Web conversion to dotCMS made a self-service knowledge base possible. This Knowledge Base is accessible through the new link.

Mandi Witkovsky initiated a project over a year ago to bring all of the scattered information into one location or knowledge base.

  • A deadline was set for March 15, 2011 to bring the new knowledge base online.
  • All legacy Web pages from the old IT Services site, including the old how-to pages, needed to be retired by 3/15 as they did not meet Section 508 Web accessibility standards.
  • The deadline would not have been met had it not been for the special effort provided by User Technology Support's student workers.
  • Over 600 pages are now available in the Information Technology Services Knowledge Base.

Each of these pages is being reviewed and updated with new information and images. Instructions for Mac users have already been added to many of the articles. More are planned for the future.

Future plans also include: A-Z search, links to related articles, and many new articles. Submitting comments on existing articles or for suggesting new topics is easy with the online form on each Web page in the knowledge base.
