Freshman (Beginner) Admissions


Students who have graduated or will graduate from secondary school but have not earned credits at a post-secondary institution should apply as a freshman (beginner) student. Students who have graduated from a secondary school and who have also earned credits at a post-secondary institution should apply as transfer students.


Completed Beginner Application

Proof of English Proficiency:

Required for students whose native language is other than English. Official score reports from any one of the following tests must be submitted directly to IPFW from the testing agency:

  • TOEFL: 79
  • IELTS: Minimum 6.5 Overall Band Score
  • SAT: 25 Reading
  • SAT (prior to 05/2016): 450 Critical Reading
  • ACT: 20 Composite
  • A Level First Language English: Minimum grade “C” or above
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma Program: SL or HL English with a grade of 5 or higher
  • PTE Academic: 58
  • ELS Language Center: Completion of level 112
  • Students attending US High Schools:
English proficiency testing requirement may be waived if the last two years of regular (not ESL) HS English have been completed with grades of “C” or above.

  • Secondary school transcripts may be uploaded through the Common App or sent directly to the institution. If not issued in English, English translations must accompany the official transcripts.

GPA Requirement:

  • 2.50 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale from all secondary schools attended

Transfer of IB, AP, A-Level Credits:


You may qualify for a merit-based scholarship. The process is simple, as your admission application automatically makes you eligible for consideration. If awarded, this information will be communicated to you in your official Purdue University Fort Wayne International Admission letter.
