Teresa Bárcenas - 2014

Teresa Barcenas

Teresa graduated with a Communication Sciences and Disorder degree and a Psychology degree. She also completed a Gerontology Certificate, as well as a Linguistics minor. Teresa plans on attending graduate school for Speech-Language Pathology, with a bilingual concentration in Spanish-speaking populations. She plans on pursuing a Ph.D. in this field and becoming a university professor. Teresa’s research interests include second-language acquisition and bilingualism, intonation effects of the cochlear implant population, foreign-accented speech, polyglot aphasia, stuttering, and dyslexia.


Stephanie Boissy- 2014

Stephanie Boissy

Stephanie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History, minors in German and Linguistics, and certificates in Teaching English as a New Language (TENL) and International Studies. She is interested in history of the Soviet Union and twentieth-century immigration in America. In Summer 2012, she spent time in Dalian, China teaching English and traveling. She received the German Heritage Society Scholarship for 2011-2012 and the Judie and Ralph Violette History Scholarship for 2013-2014. She is currently enrolled in a Transition to Teaching graduate program for Secondary Education at Indiana Wesleyan University.


Kayla Boyes- 2014

Kayla Boyes

Kayla graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During her time at IPFW she was involved in the Student Athlete Leadership Team, Circle K, the Biology Club, and the National Society for Leadership and Success. While completing her degree, Kayla also represented IPFW on the athletic field captaining both the women’s cross country and track and field teams. Kayla will attend graduate school in the fall to pursue a Masters in Marine Biology.




Sydney Cale - 2014

Sydney Cale

Sydney graduated in the Fall of 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Business. Sydney presented her project on the topic of "Commercialization and University Technology Transfer." She was involved in Beta Gamma Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Eta Sigma, and the International Business Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi. Sydney is currently enrolled in the Master of Business Administration program at IPFW and will serve as the Graduate Assistant in the Honors Program.




Srikanth Dasari - 2014

Srikanth Dasari

Srikanth graduated with degrees in Biomedical Physics and Biology Pre-Medicine. He was involved in several organizations on campus – including Pre-med Club and The Big Heart Club – and conducted research in the physics department with Dr. Mark Masters and in the consumer and family sciences department with Prof. Linda Lolkus. He also served as a student leader for The BIG Event and participated in volunteer activities for Northrop High School’s speech and debate team, the Chapman Scholars Program, the Honors Student Group, and The Big Heart Club. Srikanth was accepted into the Indiana University School of Medicine 2014 entering class and will be matriculating to one of the 9 state campuses in August of 2014. 


Rachel Nerad - 2014

Rachel Nerad

Rachel graduated from IPFW in Spring of 2014 with a degree in Secondary English. Rachel presented her capstone Honors project at the Honors Showcase in April. The title of her project was, “Critical Analysis of Stephen King’s The Shining.” She plans to attend graduate school pursuing a Master’s Degree in English.





Heidi Nissley- 2014

Heidi Nissley

Heidi graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a Minor in Psychology. During her time at IPFW, she was Secretary of the Biology Club for one year and Vice President for two years. She was inducted into Beta Beta Beta, the National Biology Honors Society in 2012. Heidi was the Vice-President of IPFW’s chapter of Beta Beta Beta for two years. She was also a member of the Pre-Med Club and a part of the Honors Student Group. Heidi did research and assisted graduate students with their research projects in Dr. Mustafa’s lab, which focuses on stress and physiological changes of farmed aquatic animals. Heidi was also an active in the community during her time at IPFW, volunteering at Lutheran Children’s Hospital for three years and Clinica de Madre de Dios for two years. Heidi also volunteered her time coaching a competitive cheerleading team for two years at Indiana Cheer Elite. Outside of school Heidi also worked part time as a certified nursing assistant for four years. In the future, Heidi plans to apply for medical school.


Maja Sljivar - 2014

Maja Sljivar

Maja is an international student from Serbia. She graduated in May 2014 with degrees in Biology and Anthropology. During her time at IPFW, Maja worked on aquatic ecology research in Dr. Bill DeMott’s lab in the biology department. She is intending to pursue a similar academic path by attending IU Bloomington as a Ph.D. student in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior. When she is not figuring out plankton interactions she hangs out at the local yoga studio, studying to be a yoga teacher.




Laura Trent - 2014

Laura Trent

Laura graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and an Associate of Science degree in Chemical Methods. Since coming to IPFW in August 2010, she has been inducted into 3 honors societies and been on the Semester Honors & Dean’s List multiple semesters. She has done research in Dr. Mourad’s laboratory for over a year and also worked part time at a local factory. She plans to work for a year before applying to Parkview Hospital’s Medical Technology internship at the Regional Medical Center. She then plans to continue her education, pursuing a Master’s degree in a field of forensic biology, which she hopes to put into use in a forensic laboratory.
