Bridges to Education and Careers

Now accepting applications

Bridges to Education and Careers at Purdue Fort Wayne is a program for students with intellectual disabilities who have completed high school, with a diploma or a Certificate of Completion, and are ready to make the transition to college. The program's primary emphasis is educational enrichment and paving a road to employment.  Students will have the opportunity to learn study techniques and gain experiences to prepare for future employment which may include internships, job shadowing, or job coaching.

Students in the Bridges Program work with peer mentors who will help them navigate their new school experience and integrate into student life, encouraging students to become involved in a more full and complete collegiate experience.

Classes are integrated, each student's classes are focused toward either a career or degree appropriate to their skills and interest.  All students who participate in the Bridges program are encouraged to take Career and Personal Development and Transition to College courses.  Other courses will vary according to interest and goals.  Bridges is the only transition to post-secondary education program in Indiana to offer student housing.

The first step to participating in the Bridges Program is to complete an application. Potential students will then be contacted to schedule an interview. One of the appendices to the application is the most recent evaluation report, more information about disability documentation is available here, please contact our office if you have any questions.
