Fundamentals of Faculty Advising at IPFW (CE)

Friday, January 19th from 12:30 – 2:30 PM in Neff 333
Facilitated by Michael Bendele (Psychology), Julie Hook (General Studies), Curt Hosier (Sociology), Irwin Mallin (Communication), Cassandra Bracht and Christa Van De Weg (Student Information Systems)

Understanding why advising matters, being able to guide students through an advising conversation, and being confident about the information we provide students are all central to a faculty member’s confidence and satisfaction in advising. In this half-day workshop, you will learn the conceptual, relational, and informational skills you need to do an effective job of advising. Registration is required.

Perspectives on Best Practices in Online Teaching (Session 1B)

Several leading faculty on our campus who have been teaching online will share some of their best practices.

  • Presenters will be Carrie Stumph (BUS), Rachel Ramsey (NURS), Jeff Nowak (EDUC), Adam Dircksen (COM), and samples from John LaMaster (MATH).
  • Topics include getting off on the right foot (welcome video, course tour, introductions, etc.), best practices in video lectures, feedback on assignments, field trips and home-use kits in a hybrid course.

Learning to Teach Online (CE)

Facilitated by Katie Jia, CELT (July 9 – July 29, 2018)

This three-week online course is developed for PFW online instructors who are new to online teaching or want to gain new ideas for effective online teaching strategies. You are invited to join your peers as online learners to learn about topics such as basic designing principles of online courses, effective facilitation strategies for collaborative online learning and online discussions. You also will be exposed to the corresponding technological skills for those strategies.

This course is totally online and CELT Certificate Eligible.

Creating Effective Instructional Videos for Online Courses with Camtasia Webinar

Capturing and recording what is on your computer screen for students can be a powerful visual teaching tool. With Camtasia you can easily capture and record activities on your desktop, including PowerPoint, with audio narration and visual enhancements. During the webinar, you will see examples of instructional videos created by PFW online instructors. Simple demonstrations of the software will help you get started this PFW supported software.
