FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Purdue University Fort Wayne Chancellor Ron Elsenbaumer and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Kristina Creager are pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Byers as Executive Director of the Office of Career Services. Byers has served as Interim Executive Director since February.

Byers, who is beginning her 25th year with Purdue Fort Wayne, brings significant experience to the position, having served for 14 years as the Director of the Student Success program in the university’s Richard T. Doermer School of Business. As director, she assisted and advised students on their path to degree completion and career selection. While in that position, Byers implemented a new class for the school in 2008, “Introduction to College and Business Careers,” which teaches students how to be successful, introduces them to careers in business as well as to campus resources, and helps them build a strong relationship with their advisor.

“I’m looking forward to using my connections across campus and in the community to build an outstanding Career Services program,” says Byers. “I believe that Career Services can have a significant impact on our students’ success by helping them visualize their end goal from the very beginning of their student journey.”

Chancellor Elsenbaumer believes Byers will guide the office to offer a seamless experience for students.

“Career Services will now serve as the single point of contact, communications, and interactions with students, alumni, employers, and the community,” says Elsenbaumer. “By streamlining our operation and services, we will be able to maintain a first-rate level of customer service for everyone as we continue to create a Career Services center that is second to none.”

Vice Chancellor Creager is enthusiastic about Byers’ new role.

“With a master’s degree in College Student Personnel from Ball State University and significant work on this campus, Susan brings considerable experience, knowledge, and energy to the critical area of Career Services,” says Creager. “I am overjoyed to formally welcome Susan to her new role and look forward to the Career Services team continuing to move forward as they have during this transition.”

The Office of Career Services offers Purdue Fort Wayne students and alumni not only career advice, but also exploration of their strengths, possible career paths, jobs and internships, workshops, and career fairs.
