Description
Primarily a small understory tree to 20 feet in height found in moist alluvial soils. Occurs throughout Indiana. Bark is smooth gray like American Beech, over a trunk with deep smooth ridges. Sometimes called Musclewood since trunk and large branches resemble musculature.
