Please verify whether the international student that you intend to hire is an F-1 degree-seeking international student or a J-1 international exchange student. International students should not be permitted to work on campus until their authorization to do so is verified.

Process
Here’s how to find your on-campus job.
F-1 status degree-seeking international students
To work on campus, you must complete the following steps:
- Find a job on campus; you can start by going to Career Services in Kettler Hall and checking their most current job listings.
- You may also go office to office and ask if there are any job opportunities available; if something is open, go ahead and apply.
- After you are offered a position, you will need to fill out the top portion of the On-Campus Employment Form [PDF]; your employer should fill out the middle portion.
- Bring the form to our office for verification and approval; you will take this form, the Office of Institutional Equity’s employment letter, and your passport and immigration documents to the Social Security

Graduate Teaching Assistant or Graduate Research Assistant
As a graduate teaching assistant or graduate research assistant, your position will be related to your major and will take place in your assigned department. If you are a graduate student who has been approved for one of these jobs, be sure to take your offer letter from your specific department to the Office of International Education.
Graduate Administrative Assistant
As a graduate administrative assistant, your position may not necessarily take place within your major department. Your position must be approved by the graduate program director and our office, and be directly related to your field of study.
J-1 status international exchange students
To work on campus, you must receive authorization and receive an updated DS-2019 form before you can begin working. For more information, contact International Education at 260-481-6034 or [email protected].
Off-campus employment
Do not begin working at any off-campus location until you have received proper authorization from either the Office of International Education or the Department of Homeland Security.
