The Lady, the Linguist, and the Coup: Linguistics in a time of War
Kettler Hall, Room G46
The Anthropology Club Lunchtime Lecture Series is pleased to host Shannon Bischoff, Ph.D. Chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
Have you ever wondered how your professors spend their time outside the classroom? Join us as Dr. Bischoff tells the remarkable story of how he and his wife/colleague embarked on a career changing journey that took them from the jungles of South East Asia to the foothills of the Himalaya on a 3,000 mile trek across the heart of Asia; from classrooms of the poorest of the poor to the offices of Ministers of Education and the homes of Ambassadors; from the halls of PFW to the United Nations High Commission on Human Rights; from teaching freshman how to navigate college life to helping Afghani refugees start a new life in the US; from a country on the brink of democratic reform to a country drowned in bloody civil war: a journey that turned a linguist into a human rights activist of an unusual sort.
