Stay Hydrated with Smoothies
Summer Hydration Tips
Summer Sun. Hot Temperatures. Outdoor Exercise. Yard Work. Gardening.
Your blood, muscles, tissues, rely on water to function. With all of the activities you do outdoors in the summer, it's important to stay hydrated. Your body loses water when you breathe, use the bathroom, exercise, or sweat just from being outdoors in the heat. Drinking water is a healthy and easy way to hydrate, but there are other healthy options to consider if you would like to add some variety.
- Smoothies made with water-rich fruits and vegetables with skim milk or milk substitute, no sugar added.
- Flavored water with a few slices of lemon or orange or cucumber. Consider adding herbs such as mint or basil with either lemon or cucumber slices.
- A salad made with spinach, iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, celery, tomatoes, radishes, and bell peppers is jam-packed with vegetables with high water content.
- Watermelon. Just as the name implies—watermelon consists of 92% water!
- Strawberries, peaches, grapes, blueberries and more.
- Chocolate milk after a workout.
Many times you may not realize that you are dehydrated until you begin to experience headaches, muscle cramps, low blood pressure, dizziness, fatigue or extreme thirst to name a few. Start and end your day by drinking a glass of water so it becomes part of your daily routine.
Please register by June 20.
