Melinda Haines has been the director of the Community Arts Academy (CAA) since January 2012. The CAA offers art, dance, theatre and music instruction to hundreds of pre-college students (grades pre-K through 12) each year through a variety of year-round Saturday classes and week-long summer camps. Private music instruction is provided by dozens of professional teachers including Purdue Fort Wayne School of Music department faculty and graduates as well as professional community musicians. Haines manages the instructors, markets the CAA to the community and handles the registrations for all programs.
As the assistant to the dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts for community engagement, Haines assists with special projects including collaborations, grant writing, advancement and development projects within the college. She also represents the CVPA on the Arts United Regional Arts Council and is a grant review panelist for the Indiana Arts Commission.
Haines holds a bachelor of arts degree in English from Kenyon College and has had an extensive career working in community relations, graphic design and marketing for a variety of local non-profit organizations and commercial businesses.
