Departmental Mission Statement

The Department defines Mathematical Sciences to include the academic fields of actuarial science, applied mathematics, applied statistics, data science, mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics.

The Mission of the Department of Mathematical Sciences is to:

  • Offer high quality instruction and educational opportunities in undergraduate and graduate programs in mathematical sciences;
  • Serve students in other departments and programs at Purdue University Fort Wayne, as well as the general education of all students, by providing mathematics and statistics courses and support services that meet student needs;
  • Conduct original research in mathematical sciences, and disseminate the results of this research to the world-wide academic community;
  • Innovate in mathematical sciences pedagogy and perform scholarly activity and service in the mathematical sciences professions;
  • Promote the value of mathematical sciences and engage with the schools and community in Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana by providing expertise and outreach in mathematical sciences and supporting the mission of Purdue University Fort Wayne as a public, comprehensive, Metropolitan University.
